Wayne Pediatrics Stands Ready in Fight Against COVID-19, Now Offering Pfizer Vaccine.

Detroit, August 26, 2021 — Following the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine for those ages 12-15, along with full approval for people age 16 and up, Wayne Pediatrics is pleased to announce it has begun administering the Pfizer vaccine. Midtown’s newest practice for babies, children, and adolescents will administer the vaccine to children ages 12 and older by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at its office located at 400 Mack Avenue in Detroit. “We are excited to make the Pfizer vaccine available to metropolitan Detroit families who choose to get their children vaccinated,” said Christopher Youngman, MD, chief medical officer, Wayne Pediatrics. “Other necessary immunizations are also available at our practice to ensure children remain up-to date on all of their scheduled vaccines. Our goal is to be a one-stop-shop for children’s vaccine needs.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), although fewer children have been infected with COVID-19 compared to adults, children can:

  • Be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19
  • Get sick from COVID-19 with both mild and severe symptoms
  • Spread COVID-19 to others

To date, the FDA has not yet approved a vaccine for children under the age of 12. Regardless of vaccination status the CDC recommends that children between the ages of 2 and 12 wear a mask in public spaces and around people they do not live with. Wayne Pediatrics provides a full range of integrated primary and subspecialty care including preventive and behavioral health services from a diabetes educator, dietitians, psychologists, and social workers. The practice also prioritizes monthly education and outreach opportunities to further engage the community.
