Wayne Pediatrics Provides Free Vaccines During Fall Harvest Health Fair

Wayne Pediatrics teamed with several community partners this month to host its Fall Harvest Community Health Fair.

The event allowed families to take advantage of free vaccinations, including COVID-19 and flu vaccinations, in a fall-themed atmosphere.

“This is actually our second vaccination fair with the Detroit Health Department,” said Wayne Pediatrics physician Eric McGrath, M.D. “We've been working in partnership to help ensure children remain up to date on their vaccines.”

Wayne Pediatrics staff volunteered their time to make the event appealing to families with fall decorations, music and activities for children. One lucky child won a bike courtesy of Sage HR Solutions, and her family came by the practice later in the week to pick it up.

Lynn Smitherman, M.D., vice chair of Medical Education for the Wayne State University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, said, “The fair was a great opportunity for families to access free resources, physicians and other health care personnel who were available to answer questions without any time constraints.”

The Fall Harvest Community Health Fair was made possible in collaboration with more than 20 community partners. The event was also supported by a grant to Wayne Pediatrics from the Michigan State Medical Society Foundation.

Wayne Pediatrics has been open since September 2020. “Because of the pandemic, we suspect there are lots of pediatric patients in the community who have just been nervous to seek medical care,” Dr. McGrath. “But we are hopeful families will slowly come back. We are here!”
